1. What do I need to run JDBStudio?
You will need JRE (Java Runtime Environment) at least version 1.4.2 to run JDBStudio.
You can download it from Sun or from java.com.
Install it and you will enjoy all the java world :-)
2. How do I install JDBStudio?
Installing JDBStudio is very simple. Just download the newest release and unzip the downloaded file into some directory.
3. How do I run JDBStudio?
Read the answers to questions 1 and 2. After unzipping the installation file go to the installation directory and double click the jdbstudio.jar file.
If the program doesn't start make sure that java program is in your PATH (type java -version) and execute run.bat or type java -jar jdbstudio.jar (both for Windows & Unix).
4. I don't want the Command window to appear when I start JDBStudio. What should I do?
Your JRE installation shoud associate *.jar files with appriopriate command (javaw -jar %1), so double-clicking the jdbstudio.jar file should start silently the program.
As an alternative in MS Windows you can start JDBStudio from a *.bat file containing the following command: start javaw -jar jdbstudio.jar.
5. How can I use JDBStudio with other databases?
You can use JDBStudio in generic mode with any database providing the JDBC driver. You can find a substantial list of drivers at Sun.
Download the driver and copy the jar file into plugins/generic/drivers directory. You will need a driver class name and database URL schema in order to register a new connection.
Read the driver's documentation. New drivers and connection examples will be added successively into JDBStudio distribution.
